It is not every day you come across raptors - and then the raptors that are fighting for food that is abundant. I had a visit to Tal Chhapar in Rajasthan in the last week of Sep. The place is a pit stop for the migrants either going out from India - or coming to India to spend the winters. Well, I was there to witness the passage migrants. Though the weather was hot - and Sep is a wee bit early but then I had decided so took out my car - filled up the gas - did a full night drive to the spot in Rajasthan crossing Punjab, Haryana and on to Rajasthan.
One of the Flacons that we saw there was the Laggar Falcon. This falcon is a resident bird that goes to North in summers. In Tal Chhapar they feed on Spiny-tailed lizards that are preparing to go to Hibernation in the coming winters. They are fairly numerous there in an area outside the Tal Chhapar in nearby open areas.
I saw a fairly large number of Laggar Falcons and one of them was sitting on a tree stump after a successful hunt of a lizard when one lazy bird decided that it is better to snip neighbours food than hunt himself. Well, it did not turn up too well as the hard working bird was too fast for the intruder and flew off with its prize. Here is the action story in a few frames.
